“Silver Surfers” is about involving and inspiring tens of thousands of people; making lots of noise and getting digital inclusion and older users on the national agenda.
- Silver Surfers’ Day is our biggest campaign. We encourage and support organisations of every kind to hundreds of free events for older users up and down the country. Thousands of people take part and try out digital technology, often for the very first time. Even more are reached by the national publicity campaign that explains why digital inclusion matters and encourages more people to try IT.
- In 2009, we worked with UK online centres and clocked up no fewer than 1055 events on and around Silver Surfers’ Day. We estimate that the associated publicity reached more than 8 million people. For more details see the Summary Review of SSD09 here.
- Silver Surfer of the Year aims to celebrate outstanding achievement by older users of digital technology. Unfortunately we were not able to run the Awards in 2009, but we are looking for sponsors for 2010. If your organisation would like to sponsor Silver Surfer of the Year, we’d love to hear from you.
