Getting a tutor
"Bob took his time and gently led me through the mine fields and pitfalls of computing. A really enjoyable time and I look forward to his next visit."
We have a network of quality assured tutors across the UK who offer home-based computer and internet tuition at affordable prices. We've been running this since 1999, and thousands of people have found Digital Unite tutors a perfect way to get started and build confidence in the world of digital technology.
Below you'll find all the information you need on who our tutors are, how lessons work and how to find and book a tutor.
Who are our tutors?
Digital Unite tutors are self-employed professionals who specialise in teaching beginners to use computers and the internet. They can also help people who wish to learn more, often to advanced level in things such as website design or photo editing.
All of our tutors are experienced computer users and teachers or trainers. Many have formal teaching qualifications. We select tutors carefully to ensure that they are empathetic to older people and to anyone who is nervous about using a computer. Read some learner stories here.
How do the lessons work?
- Our tutors come to you (or your friend, or your mum...) and work on your computer in your home. If you want help for a business they will work at your premises.
- They teach at a range of levels, from absolute beginners to more advanced learners. Many have specialist skills in website design, photo editing or databases and business applications.
- Lessons are designed to suit you and can deal with specific problems or broad areas you want to improve.
- As well as teaching new skills, our tutors can also advise on buying kit and recommend local suppliers. They may also troubleshoot problems with equipment or connections (or be able to recommend someone who can help).
How much does it cost?
The usual price for private individuals is between £20 and £30 per hour, plus travel if applicable. Rates are set with each individual tutor, and discounts may be available if you book several lessons.
